Oracle Guru Joins Texas Memory Systems

Renowned Oracle expert and author, Mike Ault, joins Texas Memory Systems as the solid state storage company continues to focus on accelerating enterprise applications.

Houston, Texas, USA (PRWEB) May 29, 2008 -- Texas Memory Systems, maker of the World's Fastest Storage®, today announced the appointment of Mike Ault as resident Oracle guru. Mr. Ault is a recognized Oracle expert and a prolific author, who has published more than twenty Oracle-related books. Increasingly, customers and Oracle database administrators (DBAs) look to Texas Memory Systems to help them analyze and resolve performance constraints in their Oracle-powered applications. By bringing Mr. Ault on board, the company is committed to providing the greatest possible level of expertise to help address database performance challenges and ensure optimal success with deployments of RamSan solid state disks.

Solid state storage devices like the RamSan from Texas Memory Systems are deployed to accelerate software applications such as those based on Oracle databases. With solid state disks, applications can accommodate more concurrent users and simultaneous transactions, and can be more economical and energy efficient than adding monolithic RAID, servers, and RAM, or constant application tuning. RamSan solutions are widely used to accelerate database-centric applications such as those used for online transaction processing (OLTP), data warehousing, and batch processing in the financial, telecom, e-commerce, and online-gaming industries, as well as government, military, and research organizations.

As Oracle guru, Mr. Ault is responsible for directing Texas Memory Systems' sponsorship of the popular StatspackAnalyzer.com website. StatspackAnalyzer is a free online tool provided to the Oracle community, that analyzes the data from users' Statspack or AWR reports and presents users with clear, customized recommendations for improving the performance of their Oracle databases. Mr. Ault is also responsible for benchmarking Oracle performance using solid state disk in order to refine selection criteria and best practices for deployment and integration in mixed-storage environments. Because of his extensive expertise, Mr. Ault is also available to provide pre- and post- sales support for customers.

"We are delighted to welcome Mike to the Texas Memory Systems team," said Woody Hutsell, executive vice president at Texas Memory Systems. "We want our customers to get the most out of their RamSan investment. By providing guru-level expertise in Oracle databases in addition to the World's Fastest Storage, we are ensuring our customers optimize their application performance at all levels."

Prior to joining Texas Memory Systems, Mike Ault was an Oracle database specialist at Quest Software. He is a recognized Oracle expert with more than 17 years of experience as an Oracle DBA and consultant. Mike previously served for six years as a Navy submariner and for ten years as a programmer in Basic and Fortran IV on the PDP-11 architecture, in addition to working with PDP, IBM-PC, Osborne and later VAX-VMS and HP architectures and with the Informix and Ingres databases. In 1990, Mr. Ault began working with Oracle as the only DBA at the Iuka, Mississippi-based Advanced Solid Rocket Motor (ASRM) project for NASA. Since 1990 Mike has used his Oracle expertise in a variety of industries, working in corporate settings as well as independently as a consultant.

Mike has published more than 20 Oracle-related books, including Oracle Administration and Management (Wiley), Oracle DBA OCP ExamCram (Coriolis) and Oracle 10g Grid and RAC (Rampant Technical Press). In addition, he has written articles for Oracle, Select, DBMS, Oracle Internals and several other database-related magazines. Mike is also a frequently high-rated presenter at local, regional and international Oracle conferences, such as GOUSERS, SEOUG, RMOUG, NYOUG, NCOUG, IOUG, OOW, ODTUG, UKOUG and EOUG.

"I am excited to be joining Texas Memory Systems at this time," said Mike Ault. "I have deployed and written about using solid state disks to accelerate Oracle databases for many years. Thanks to increased database performance requirements and falling costs, SSD technology is becoming a must-have for Oracle shops. RamSan is the fastest, best-proven SSD out there, and has long been an active part of the Oracle community. This position gives me unique insight into the most challenging performance issues faced by DBAs and the opportunity to address them with a mix of knowledge and technology."
