Chatsworth Products Inc. turns to Texas Memory Systems' solid state storage for 700% faster SQL database queries |

Chatsworth Products Inc. (CPI) uses Texas Memory Systems' RamSan solid state disk to accelerate their SQL-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database by 700%Houston, Texas, September 29, 2004-Texas Memory Systems, Inc., makers of the World's Fastest Storage®, announced that Chatsworth Products Inc. (CPI), a leading manufacturer of racks, cabinets, and cable management products for information technology data centers, has successfully accelerated its SQL-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) database by reducing query times by 700% using a single RamSan solid state disk. The CPI ERP system uses SQL Server 7.0 on redundant Dell PowerEdge servers and Dell 51F Fibre Channel switches. Like many other businesses, CPI depends on the quality of its business intelligence and ERP system. Highly concentrated access to the ERP system during short periods of time caused show queries, database deadlocks and SQL lockups. This situation frustrated the database users. CPI's IT experts tuned the database code and changed the infrastructure but they "hit a performance wall" when it came to their storage. To solve the problem, CPI evaluated products from several solid state disk vendors. CPI chose the Texas Memory Systems RamSan-320 solid state disk because of its exceptional reliability, compatibility and unique Active Backup feature which constantly copies data to auxiliary hard disks. "The entire ERP system experienced great improvements in response times," said Jerry Guy, senior database administrator at CPI. "Reducing query time from half a minute to just seconds thrilled the database users. Database deadlock causes data integrity problems so the RamSan solution also resulted in a dramatic reduction in trouble calls to the IT department." Texas Memory Systems' RamSan solid state storage products can speed enterprise applications like databases, ERP, OLTP, OLAP, modeling and video editing up to 2500% without adding processors, RAM, hard drives and monolithic RAID. Solid state storage is similar to RAM cache. Unlike hard disk drives it does not use rotating media so data seeks are significantly faster. Because there are no drive heads to crash, solid state disks are also more reliable than typical hard drives. Typical RamSan users include corporations in the financial, telecom, broadcasting, and e-commerce sectors as well as government, military, and research organizations. "The CPI IT team took a very intelligent approach to solving their database performance problem," said Woody Hutsell, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Texas Memory Systems. "Like many leading organizations they strategically used solid state storage along with their RAID systems to maximize performance of their mission critical applications." About Texas Memory Systems Texas Memory Systems (www.texmemsys.com) manufactures the World's Fastest Storage®. Their RamSan line of solid state storage is used to accelerate enterprise applications like OLTP databases, batch processes, and data warehouses, modeling and video editing up to 25-times.
